Got down a bit after 5 to see Ian going out with 5m and Chris with 6m. Bit of a wind shadow so I rigged 5.2m. Got in the water and shot off thinking if this is what it is like in the shadow........... And yes it was stronger than it looked. further ourt. After a few runs I flattened the sail which was more manageable, but it was a bit gusty and overpowering at times for the big sea. Mark, Darren, Phil and a few others set off about the same time, and about 4 kiters also out. Wind was fine, then would climb to be too much, and being nervous about the wind shadow growing I kept overpowered. It was a funny evening as some of the time riding in with the big swell was fantastic, but riding out was hard into some steep faces close together and further out the sea was a real big mess and worst I have ever sailed in, which is saying something for Felixstowe. But in the end I remember the great rides in, and some exciting rides out across the swell when the wind was not too strong. A great late summer sail for a bit over and hour and a half on the water. Some rides in and out deserve 5*,but gusts and horrible sea further out deserve 2*. No GPS as it seems to have packed up; put it in the airing cupboard to see if that helps.
